29.May.2012 Sunken Seas sign to MUZAI Records
MUZAI Records is pleased to announce the signing of Wellington space-rock trio SUNKEN SEAS to it’s roster – as both parties work towards the release of their stunning debut album, Null Hour, due out physically/digitally from June 28th.
Formed from the smouldering remnants of post punk band Tiddabades, Sunken Seas (Craig, Luke, Ryan) have undergone an incredible shift in style. Where the former band were more the headiness of the dance-punk era, Sunken Seas have brought the sometimes underlying broodiness to the forefront with this new venture. It’s more cold, more industrial… it’s almost the antithesis of what Tiddabades became familiar for…
Their debut single, “High Rise”, earned critical praise across the music industry – earning itself plaudits from The Corner, citing it as “…one of the local highlights of 2011” and Vanguard Red calling the group “Musically cathartic, affecting the feeling of being sucked through a quickly spiralling black hole”. Such was the strength of Sunken Seas’ debut single, it’s received rotation on alternative radio in New Zealand (charting number #1 on Auckland’s 95bFM Top Ten) and the band featured in April issue of RipItUp (as part of the “Who’s Next” section). As of writing – the band are not only #6 on the 95bFM chart with their second single, “Paid Your Price”, but were #1 on the inaugural The Audience(.co.nz) chart.
Still in their infancy, the trio have shared bills alongside the likes of Die! Die! Die! (NZ), Wooden Shjips (US) and legendary punk poet John Cooper Clarke (UK).
The band are set to release their debut album, Null Hour, both in physical and digital form from June 28th (as the teaser trailer on YouTube has indicated – through MUZAI Records in NZ and Tenzenmen in Australia). Recorded and mixed the album under the guidance of James Goldsmith (Tommy Ill, Diana Rozz) and mastered by Mike Gibson (Uni & Her Ukelele, Grayson Gilmour), Null Hour is a sweeping, atmospheric odyssey featuring the popular two singles, but as part of a bigger listening experience alongside the other eight tracks, rather than just on their own…
