Psych Tigers

With too much spare time on his hands and a laptop full of music software, Christchurch local (by way of Australia) Sam Perry conceived Psych Tigers in mid 2011. Evidently the idea became much more serious that a mere way to pass holiday boredom, and so in the interests of playing the songs Perry had crafted in his own bedroom, brought together Todd Williamson, Steven Marr and finally Matt Gunn – very quickly tightening as a unit and become a popular addition in the Christchurch music scene.

In the short space of time between then and as we write this, Perry has formed a posse of musicians from the local area and already released a critically acclaimed EP, meddling in the sounds of The Beach Boys and Sonic Youth; not as harsh a juxtaposition as one might think. Having bounced songs across the past six months to MUZAI Records, they were signed in 2012 off the strength of not only their songwriting, but their youthful charm and energy – very akin to the early days of now label-mates Sherpa.
