Pairs

It’s not just Contact MT that’s being smuggled out of China – discordant, abrasive pop music that isn’t sung by teen idolsĀ  in all their glamour is something else that has seen it’s way onto New Zealand shores as of late. We know the drug’s references aren’t palatable for everyone – that’s a metaphor you use to sum up Pairs too.

Compared by some to the likes of The Handsome Furs, referenced to the likes of Darby Crash and at one stage described as “a more manic Die! Die! Die!“, the ugly sense of gratuitous nihilism the band emit from their songs evoke little but a feeling of debauched, bratty discordance with, of course, angular guitars.

The blast beats during their songs though cast them aside from general indie-noise idioms however. That and their broken English.
